Role Summary:

Baker Hughes, a GE company requires a Laboratory Technician to provide general support in the cementing laboratory.

The role as a Laboratory Technician will require you to conduct routine cement slurry testing and analysis as set under API Spec 10A Specification for Cements and Materials for Well Cementing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of cement and other products and services received from vendors

  • Responsible for the providing of laboratory pilot testing of cement slurry design and reporting of results

  • Mixing and testing of fluids and generate laboratory data.

  • Ensuring the safety and accuracy of laboratory activities.

  • Responsible for maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.

  • Responsible for the labelling and storing of chemicals in the lab, also including the maintenance of the records and discharge of expired chemicals.

  • Pack and send offshore laboratory equipment.

  • Assist in recommendations and solutions to the offshore operations.

  • Assist in contact, information and co-ordination of work from other BHGE cementing laboratories.

  • Undertake other responsibilities delegated by Cementing Engineers.


  • Applicants will have achieved as a minimum a National 5 Pass or Higher Grade in Chemistry or General Science along with relevant work experience in a Lab environment

  • Experience of working in a Lab environment is essential

  • Testing experience in a Lab environment is preferred but not essential

  • Understanding of Cementing or Drilling Fluids within Oilfield Services is desirable but not essential

  • Familiarity with API Spec 10A requirements is desirable but not essential

  • Microsoft Office, particularly Excel is essential
